Comprenesive Exam Information
Each student admitted to the psychology
program is required to pass a written comprehensive examination
covering material presented in three of the five core curriculum
courses (Developmental, Physiological, and Social). The Written
Comprehensive Examination is offered once a year during the
spring semester and should be taken at the end of the first
year when the student has completed or is in the process of
completing all core curriculum coursework. The written comprehensive
examination must be completed within the first 24 hours of
graduate study, and successful completion is a prerequisite
for enrolling in practicum training.

- Exams are given once a year during the
spring semester. Students must notify the graduate coordinator
in writing by completeing a department form signifiying
their intent, if they plan to take the exam. Forms can be
found in the psychology department office and will be posted
on the website along with information describing the time
and location of the exam.
- Students who fail the examination (failing
one or ore sections of the exam with a score of less than
3 on a 5-point scale) will be allowed to retake the examination
in its entirety twice. At the discretion of the department,
retakes of the comprehensiv examination will be offered
during the fall semester.
- Three failures of the exam will
result in termination from the program. Details about the
grading procedure are available from the Psychology Graduate
Program Coordinator.
